Almost Time for Guangzhou

WEDNESDAY

Well, here we are on day 5 as mother/daughter and one might think things would be going well. You would be wrong. Desi is rejecting every effort I make to show her affection. When I speak to her she turns her head. When I touch her she jerks away. Yeah, things could be better!!!!

I am trying not to get my feelings hurt, but that's a lot harder said than done. Her face lights up like a Christmas tree when she sees Chris, Melody and Steed, but not me. She would rather be anywhere in the world than in this room with me. Tomorrow we fly to Guangzhou so hopefully things will be much better. I hope. Once she is not around Melody every day I think things will start to improve. Melody is a very sweet girl, but I am so tired of this person taking my child away from me every single time we walk out of this room. Melody is only about 25 and keeps telling Desi she's her older sister. UGH!!!!! She speaks the same language, looks the same, etc. and so Desi absolutely adores her and wants to be with her. I'm trying to be patient with her as I know she thinks she's doing the job she was hired to do, but I will be glad to leave this place tomorrow. In Guangzhou there will be over 20 other GWCA families for our
guide to take care of, so they won't have time to take my child from me.

Today has been a free day for us. I wanted to visit a park but there isn't one within walking distance and I sure wasn't getting into a taxi!!!!!!!!!!! This city would be comparable to Detroit Michigan. It's very industrial and not a lot of touristy things to do. If you're not here on business then it's really kind of a boring place to be. We did end up walking to KFC again and then walking around the block just to get out of the room and get some polluted air:-) LOL

Anyway, we are about to close this chapter of the adoption and I am not going to lie. I am ready to say good-bye to Lanzhou. I don't like it here at all!!!!!!!! Desi and I both have some very bad memories of this place and we need some new (and clean) digs. I'm not sure what the deal is with her, but if she doesn't like something on her plate, she tosses it onto the floor!!!! At the restaurant yesterday, I looked on the other side of her chair and she had a pile of food in the floor that she had taken bites of and tossed!!!! She's doing the same thing here at the hotel so there's an assortment of crumbs on the floor. We're going to have to work on her table manners once we get home!!! LOL

Since there weren't really any photos from today's activities, I thought I would get a couple of pictures of her right after bath time. She REFUSED (actually being silly) to open her eyes for me. It was our one bonding moment today as we were both laughing at the fact she wouldn't open her eyes for me. Baby steps:-)

Next post from the warm, tropical, unpolluted, American friendly,
GUANGZHOU!!!!!!!

The pictures for today include one of Desi being silly and refusing to open her eyes for the camera, one of her folding her clothes for the trip to Guangzhou, and finally one of Desi's burthday cake!

We are ready for her to be home!!!
