Happy Birthday Desi!!! Today she is four years old, and what a happy birthday to be celebrating with our mom!
Here is the latest update:
WEDNESDAY
Our day started out very early this morning. Apparently there is a conference
going on in this hotel and there are people everywhere. It is not uncommon to
wait 15 minutes for an elevator. I have had the hardest time getting breakfast
because you can't move in the restaurant. This morning I got smart and was
there when it opened at 7. This WILL happen again for the next two mornings
that I'm here because there was BACON!!!!! Desi and I had bacon, eggs and toast
and it was good:-)
Afterwards we came back to the room to watch cartoons and get ready for our day.
Melody picked us up at 9:00 and off we went to the Gansu Museum. What a
wonderful place. Such amazing exhibits and they had REAL dinosaurs!!!! We
spent the better part of the morning there and Desi had a great time running
through the museum.
After there we went to see the Yellow River Mother statue. Not exactly sure
(even after hearing the explanation) what the importance of this statue is, but
there were lots of people there taking pictures. Next stop....the waterwheel
park. The internet showed 25-30 waterwheels at this place, but there was only 2
where we were at. The wood is over 600 years old and it still looks good!!!! I
was a little disappointed there weren't more, but it was still pretty cool.
Next, lunch:-) I think Melody and Steed have finally figured out that Chris and
I are losing weight fast so they took us to a famous restaurant here in Lanzhou.
They ordered the local delicacy, beef noodles (served with fresh mint), starch
noodles with tofu served with this really crazy oily red sauce and then this
dish with onions and celery. Come to find out it wasn't onions and celery
though. It was the root of the mountain lily. I actually liked this as it had
been sauteed in a beefy/garlicy sauce. Very good.
Chinese believe that a smart child is also a naughty child. If this is true,
then we are in for some serious trouble as Desi is very intelligent:-) She has
been showing me a lot of her "naughty" side lately and I think she is surprised
when I don't allow her to do whatever she wants. She is very obedient most of
the time, but I see her sitting in timeout a LOT when we get home!!!! LOL
Only one more full day here and then we're off to Guangzhou Friday at 4:20.
Yippee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ending with a blurry but beautiful smile!!!
