An Overdue Update

I know. It's been too long since an update and I thank those of you that have "kindly" reminded me of this:-) LOL

Ok, so let's start with Christmas. It took Chinese Princess 2 (aka: CP2) a while to get the hang of opening the gifts, as she wanted to open one gift at a time and then play with it. She received lots of things I'm sure she has never seen before. Thankfully she seems to like all of her toys and plays with them appropriately.

New Year's Eve was spent at home and in bed by 8:00. Having only been home a few weeks and trying to set up a routine requires sacrifices (on the parent's part LOL). I don't think any of us minded an early night.

Since the first of the year Desi has had her first medical exam. Most of the news was extremely positive, although we do have an issue that could require some therapy in the future. While in China I noticed a very large dimple just above the crack of her behind (sorry to be so graphic but that's where it is). I had my suspicions at the time that this could be....and probably was.....a form of spina bifida. Desi's doctor had the same feelings and he will be doing x-rays to confirm the diagnosis in the future. Since it's not really having any severe affects on her right now, other than stumbling and falling a little more than normal, he has decided to let her language skills develop more before we take her and stick her in an x-ray machine:-) We believe she has Spina Bifida Occulta. There is nothing they can really do for it other than use therapy to strength her legs and back muscles. All of her "plumbing" works correctly and that would be the only other issue we might have with the SBO diagnosis.

So, in saying all of that, she can run, jump, do the splits, etc. so it will be more of a "diagnosis" than it will something that requires multiple doctor/hospital/therapy visits. We thank God for keeping this information about Desi "secret", as Spina Bifida was not on our list of special needs that we had given to our agency.

Now for her bonding and attachment "issues". She still continues to absolutely adore Devan, Jordan and now Jenna. I'm also happy to report that things are getting better with me and Steve too!!!! She is giving Steve hugs and kisses at bedtime and even sat on his lap last night to look at some pictures from the orphanage. I am able to give hugs and kisses at night too. During the day she still isn't very open to a lot of physical affection, but she does come to me now to kiss boo-boo's:-)

Her English is nothing short of amazing. Desi is like a parrot and repeats EVERYTHING!!! She has about 40-45 English words that she uses daily and she is even putting words together. Last night in the van she said, "me funny"!!! She tells me when she has to go potty and uses a combination of signing/words to let me know she wants something to eat or drink. She is saying "sorry, thank you and please" at the appropriate times....Yea!!!! I'm telling you, she is too smart for words.

Speaking of smart.......hmmmmm.....how do I say this? She is so smart that she can take the DirecTV remote from our bedroom, hide it in her bedroom, and replace our bedroom remote with the living room remote because she got mad at Steve when he wouldn't let her in the bathroom with him one night. It took Steve and Devan almost 30 minutes to convince her to tell them where the remote was:-) She also locks me out of the house ALL.THE.TIME!!! I feel like I need to wear a house key around my neck constantly. LOL

Her favorite foods continue to be fruits and vegetables. I am constantly buying bananas, clementine oranges and grape tomotoes. YES, grape tomatoes. She wants them with every meal. She loves pizza, fried chicken, asparagus, green beans and spaghetti. Probably the one thing outside of what I just mentioned is her love of vanilla pudding. Oh yes, CP2 LOVES, LOVES, LOVES her pudding cups:-)

She likes to take rides in her stroller around the neighborhood while holding onto the dogs leashes. I am thinking about getting a harness for Wilson and letting him pull her around. It would be much easier on me if he was pulling her up the hills instead of me pushing!!!! LOL

Just like in China, Desi continues to be a champion sleeper and napper. Around noon each day she goes down for about a two hour nap and then she's in bed by 8:00 p.m. and sleeps until 6-6:30 a.m. We can DEFINITELY deal with that, although Jenna would prefer that she sleep until 6:30 since that's the time SHE gets up:-)

Her adoption announcements are ready to go if only I could get a good picture of her:-( She loves to tease me and give me the million dollar smile, only to put a toy or her hand in front of her face at the exact moment I snap the camera. Yes, this is IRRITATING!!!! Hopefully one day very soon, I will get the perfect shot and I can get the announcements in the mail.
