Let's finish this and an update

After much consideration, I've decided that I won't be posting anything else about my trip. It just isn't something I choose to think about any more, so I am done.

Instead I thought I'd provide an update on Desi. Every day she seems to learn a new English word. The first word she learned REALLY well was banana!!! She says about 10-12 Chinese words before she says it, but you can definitely hear banana at the end. Some of her other words: Be nice (said as she's smacking the dogs), uh-oh, no-no-no, potty, my sisters (she actually puts the two words together), hello, oh my goodness, water, please, dog, puppy, kitty, Jordan, Jenna, Devan, Wilson, Jack, baba (Steve wants her to say daddy so we're working on that), momma, nose, eye and a few other things. Not bad for being home less than a month.

She absolutely adores Devan and Jordan. In the past few days she has finally decided that Jenna can provide great fun and entertainment for her and so she has started warming up to her too:-) As for me and Steve......She has allowed Steve to hold her a couple of times and thinks he is just downright funny!!!! She hasn't shown him any physical affection, but at least she seems to be comfortable around him and on occasion will take him by the finger to tattle on the dogs. LOL

I have been with her longer than anyone and just in the past two days has she finally opened up to me a bit. Granted, it is NOWHERE near where it should be, but we are taking baby steps. This morning she actually hugged my leg in the kitchen. That is a MAJOR hurdle for us:-) I was also able to give her a kiss at bedtime last night with just minor objection from her. Another baby step, but it does seem like we're moving in the right direction.

She is happy as a clam around the house and eats anything we put in front of her. Milk does seem to be her absolute favorite drink right now and she drinks a LOT of it. She still continues to eat oranges and bananas like crazy and we are happy it's not junk food!!!

Steve says he couldn't have asked for her adjustment into our family to be any better. I must agree. She is sleeping from 8:30 p.m. until 7:30 a.m.!!! Yippee!!!! If you know Jenna's story, you know this is something Steve and I worried about:-) She does not hardly ever cry, but she does have a little bit of a bossy attitude. Actually, depending on what is going on, she will stomp her little foot and point her little finger at you to let you know she ain't happy:-) She looks so serious when she does this, but we all laugh because it's just too darn funny!!!

So, I guess that's all for now. We're still working on getting into a routine and establishing "normalcy" in the house. Of course, what's considered "normal" here might be complete chaos somewhere else!!!! LOL
