SUNDAY
Today started out by going to the Chen Family Temple. From what I was able to hear and understand, this was a "clan" home where they educated their children. It was built with donations and it was extremely ornate. Such beautiful carvings and architecture.
In the temple they had the most amazing bone carvings and embroidery. The Chinese definitely do not lack for talented, artistic people!!!!
Next it was off to the Pearl Market. OH MY GOODNESS!!!! I could have seriously spent the entire day there, but we were limited to just an hour:-) I think this was probably a good thing.
Kelly, our guide, decided that we would walk from the Pearl Market to Shamian Island. At first I thought this was a GREAT idea. That was until she took us right down the middle of town. It was a nightmare trying to keep all the families together while trying to make it through the thousands upon thousands of people. If that wasn't bad enough, we then went through a real Chinese market. I'm pretty sure I have now seen every single thing on the face of the planet for sale:-)
Herbs and spices I've never even seen before, bags of sea horses being sold for soup and medicinal purposes, fish, turtles, scorpions, puppies and kitties, rabbits, chipmunks, frogs, bark from a tree,,,,,you name it, it was probably there!!!! I even seen the leg of what appeared to be a bear on the street (pic attached). It still had the muscles and tendons (YUCK!!!!!!!!!!)
We finally made our way to the island and I found Subway. This is where I found out the girl LOVES potato chips. I think she inhaled the bag:-)
I wanted to share my top 10 things about her so far:
10. I'm pretty sure she has a great career in shoplifting ahead of her. So far she's lifted a shoe from one store, a jade ball from another and has managed to somehow get ahold of one of the dad's phone from his pocket!!!!!! Thankfully the shop owners were very understanding!!!
9. She takes a bath like an otter. Seriously. That's what she reminds me of. It's the funniest thing you've ever seen.
8. At the market today, I discovered she is terrified of dogs. Won't she be surprised when we get home:-)
7. She can eat oranges and bananas ALL day long. The girl is a fruit eater.
6. She is SMART. Enough said:-)
5. She definitely likes her personal space and will whack whoever or whatever gets too close.
4. She sings Chinese nursery rhymes when she's in the stroller. All the parents in our group love listening to her sing.
3. She calls every man she sees BABA!!!!! I think we might have a daddy's girl on our hands:-)
2. Many Chinese people have watched her when we're out and say that she is "naughty" because she is so smart. I will admit, I have to stay one step ahead of the girl because she is always finding something to get into!!! LOL
1. She has the most infectious laugh and smile. I can't tell you how many people have told me that when she smiles, she makes them want to smile too.
An update on our bonding/attachment: today she allowed me to hold her on the bus while she slept and has started to let me give her kisses without wiping them off:-) We are getting there, slowly but surely.
